Biogeochemical Cycles
Also known as...
The Nutrient Cycles
Questions to think of:
How do humans effect each of the cycles and their processes?
What are the reservoirs of each cycle?
What organisms help the cycles to occur?
What would happen to the cycles if you introduced pesticides or fungicides into the ecosystem? (hint: decomposition)
Also, just a few side notes:
The Earth is a closed system when dealing with nutrients, and an open system when dealing with energy.
Decomposition rates largely determine the rates of nutrient cycling in ALL of the cycles.
Nutrient cycles involve biotic & abiotic components & are called biogeochemical cycles.
If you have truly mastered these cycles, you could write out the whole cycle and what causes each process without looking at your notes.
